About Us - Our MissionThe Landing Zone Parrot Sanctuary, Inc. [TLZPS] provides a safe and loving environment for recovery, preservation and continual life-long care of pre-homed parrots including those who have been abused, neglected or handicapped.
TLZPS is a long term care facility with renewable resources to provide future care. We strive to preserve all species and have plans to create a large, flight-friendly sanctuary. We work with similar facilities, and education instututions to educate the public though talks, books and events focusing on parrot information, history, psychological & health issues, care and attention needs, and general factual information about parrots.
"There are estimated to be between 10 to 17 million exotic birds in homes in the US" Parrots.com stated, If less than 1% of these parrots need re-homed due to mental and physical duress, hardship, or displacement, that is around 100,000 birds. There are not enough sanctuaries to take these all in, and we’d like to try to aid in resolving this problem through education and awareness, as well as giving them a forever home when necessary.
As a public service we give a permanent home to parrots whose owners no longer have alternate choices and who seek pemanent placement for their pets. We are needed in the community to educate the public on the importance of preserving parrots as many are endangered species and to preserve them as their numbers are globally decreasing.
We also will provide an educational service to teach people the responsibilities of taking on a parrot; general parrot knowledge, specific specie care, and other information including how many years the commitment of ownership entails, as opposed to a dog or cat -- a viewpoint that a sales-based bird store or present owner often choose, or do not know to share.
As a family run business, TLZPS has been casted from the funds in our own pockets. We have had garage sales, made items to sell on our website, and put out donation boxes to raise money to apply for our 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. We have been graciously donated a concession trailer, in-which we now hold a volunteer-led bake sale at the weekly local Street Fair- which 100% of profits benefit the care of our birds.
We also participate in larger fundraisers including the annual Tour De Palm Springs, a bike ride for Charity to spike the communities involvement and interest in parrots and our organization.
With the approval of our 501(c)(3) status with the US IRS, we have broadened our opportunities to fund our parrot rescue center. We are now able to seek additional sponsors, grants and funding to stay in business through organizations requiring the 501(c)(3) to apply. This will allow the corporation to continue the programs we set up now, for generations.
Individuals wanting to donate to the corporation would also know that their contributions generally are tax deductible.
Please consider helping our cause by making a donation or by volunteering!
